About this Event

Mental Health First Aid Australia currently offering a Blended Mental Health First Aid delivery option in place of the standard face-to-face MHFA course, due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions.

Blended course delivery comprises two components.

1. Course Component 1 – Self-paced eLearning (5-7 hours)

2. Course Component 2 – Instructor-led Zoom (2 x 2.5 hour sessions)

Course participants first complete the interactive self-paced eLearning component that teaches you about mental health problems, mental health crises, and skills to offer initial help to an adult developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Once you register for this course, you will receive access to the eLearning component.

The follow-on online live session allows participants the opportunity to revise and consolidate knowledge and skills in a group environment, and to apply their skills to specific scenarios.

After completing both parts of the course, participants can complete an online Accreditation Assessment to become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider.

The eLearning component covers

  • Developing mental health problems covered:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety problems
  • Psychosis
  • Substance use problems

Mental health crises covered:

  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Non-suicidal self-injury
  • Panic attacks
  • Traumatic events
  • Severe psychotic states
  • Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
  • Aggressive behaviours.

The online live sessions will focus is on the revision and application of knowledge and skills learnt in the eLearning component, providing participants with the opportunity to:

  • Examine issues pertinent to mental health problems in the community or workplace in more depth
  • Clarify any points of uncertainty remaining after completion of the eLearning modules
  • Apply the MHFA Action Plan to relevant community or workplace scenarios
  • Discuss and reflect 'a where to from now' in using mental health first aid skills in the workplace.

The current total cost to complete the Blended Online Mental Health First Aid Workplace Course is $315 (incl. GST) per participant*.

The cost of the eLearning course is $150.00 which also includes optional delivery of a hard copy MHFA Standard Course Manual. The cost of the 2 x 2.5 hour video conferencing sessions is $165 including GST
