This course is delivered in six modules over a period of two weeks. Commences on Tuesday 23rd February and concludes on Friday 5th March 2021.

This course is relevant to individuals that want to become a Road Safety Auditor or those required to manage the Road Safety Audit process and its outcomes. Covering the new Austroads Guide to Road Safety Part 6 & 6A current accredited Road Safety Auditors that wish to undertake a refresher course may also attend. Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be eligible to register as a Road Safety Auditor in Victoria on the VicRoads Road Safety Auditor Management System www.vrsa.com.au

COURSE STRUCTURE (all times in Australian Eastern Daylight Time AEDT)

Module 1 - Introduction to Road Safety Audit, Stages & Desktop Audits

Tuesday 23rd February (10.00am - 12.00 pm AEDT)

• What are Road Safety Audits & why do them?

• Integrating Safe System Principles into Road Safety Auditing

• Education pack delivered to your door, includes design plans, exercises and your report template • Live interactive webinar including spot quizzes (2 hours) • Quiz questionnaire (10 minutes) • Individual Research topic - Assignment (1 hour)

Module 2 - Stages of Road Safety Audits & Auditing for Pedestrians

Thursday 25th February (10.00am - 12.00 pm AEDT)

• Common Road Safety issues

• Checking standards or checking for safety?

• Stages of an Audit

• Live interactive webinar including spot quizzes (2 hours) • Quiz questionnaire (10 minutes)

Module 3 - Detailed design RSAs, Traffic Management RSAs & Using the checklists

Friday 26th February (10.00am - 12.00 pm AEDT)

• Detailed design stage Road safety Audits

• Traffic Management Road Safety Audits

• Using the checklists & writing cracking audit findings

• Live interactive webinar including spot quizzes (2 hours) • Quiz questionnaire (10 minutes) • Detailed Traffic Management RSA video (elective) • Desktop design audit - Assignment (45 minutes)

Module 4 - Auditing for Bicycles, Motorcycles & Writing your Road Safety Audit Report

Tuesday 2nd March (10.00am - 12.00 pm AEDT)

• Cyclist considerations

• Site visit safety briefing

• Live interactive webinar including spot quizzes (2 hours) • Motorcycle Treatments Video Case Studies x 2

Module 5 - Complete your Road Safety Audit

Tuesday 2nd March - Friday 5th March

Schedule a time that suits you during this week to complete your individual site visit at a location tailored to you - near your home or other location as specified by you

• Video call support whilst you complete your audit (we will have pre-reviewed your site)

• Writing your audit report and submitting for feedback (one-on-one support available via phone/FaceTime)

Module 6 - Legal Issues, Road Safety Auditor Registration & Accreditation Process & Summary

Friday 5th March (10.00am - 11.30am AEDT)

• 1.5 hour live interactive webinar

• 10 minute final knowledge test

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION

In order to successfully complete this program and gain your certificate to become a Registered Road Safety Auditor, you must:

• Attend a minimum of 4 out of 5 live webinars (all webinars are recorded and available to review), and view any not attended.

• Satisfactory completion of all set tasks - including quizzes, exercises/assignments, audit site visit & audit report.

• Achieve an average 80% pass mark on all quizzes (up to three attempts with one-on-one coaching available if required)

TRAINER

Kenn Beer (BEng (Hons), MPIA)

Kenn is the Principal of Safe System Solutions Pty Ltd, a specialist road safety engineering consultancy based in Melbourne. Before founding Safe System Solutions Pty Ltd in 2013, Kenn worked for VicRoads in a variety of roles including Manager Planning, Manager Program Development and Team Leader Road Safety Engineering. During his career Kenn has undertaken over 250 Road Safety Audits on some of Australia’s most high profile and complex infrastructure projects. Kenn has been the lead trainer for the official Road Safety Auditor course in Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania. Kenn was a specialist advisor for Austroads Project SAG2060 – updating the Guide to Road Safety Part 6: Managing Road Safety Audits & Part 6A Implementation of Road Safety Audits. Kenn is a road safety engineer, Senior Road Safety Auditor and transport planner with further qualifications in training and assessment.
