Fitness to Dive Medical Examination & Education.

Occupational Fitness to Dive Medicals -Regulations determine the requirements for certifying occupational divers. Occupational diving is defined as diving that is carried out at work for gain or reward. The AS/NZS 2299.1 states an occupational diver medical is required to be undertaken every 12 months with a doctor who is suitably qualified in hyperbaric medicine and is authorised to conduct occupational diving medicals.

Recreational Fitness to Dive Medical is an assessment of a diver's health, covering areas such as the heart, lungs, ear, nose and throat, neurological functioning and general health, in accordance with the SPUMS Guidleines 2020.

It is designed to identify any potential risks and conditions, with follow-up treatment or referral to a regular GP if required.

These medical assessments must be undertaken with a doctor who is suitably qualified in hyperbaric medicine and is authorised to conduct diving medicals.

The Department of Hyperbaric & Diving Medicine will offer dive medical examinations one day each week within the facility which is situated on Level 3 of K Block at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

Financial outlay per dive medical (occupational or recreational) will be $360.00 + Eventbrite booking fee. This will be a donation to the Department of Hyperbaric & Diving Medicine that will be used for education and training.

The financial outlay for the dive medical is a standard industry charge for this examination and educational occurrence. If the diving consultant requires you to have other tests such bloods, xrays or an ECG, these may be an additional cost if arranged privately.

Examinations will take approximately one and a half hours.

Your diving doctor may request that you attend for a short follow up visit (there would be no cost for this appointment).

Paediatric Dive Medical Examinations

Paediatric dive medicals (10 - 15 years) can be booked following direct contact with the Department of Hyperbaric & Diving Medicine (6166 8193) and in consultation with a Diving Physician.

Refund/Booking Transfer

A refund can be reqeusested via the platform up to 24 hours before your scheduled appointment (less Eventbrite fees).

You may also transfer your appointment to a later date/time via the platform - also 24 hours before.

Refunds for missed appointments without notification, or 'no shows' cannot be processed.
