Due to issues beyond our control the Department of Diving & Hyperbaric Medicine is currently NOT accepting online bookings for occupational, scientific or recreational divers. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

The medical assessments for recreational, occupational, scientific and paediatric (10 – 15 years of age) divers must be undertaken with a doctor who is suitably qualified in hyperbaric medicine and is authorised to conduct diving medicals.

The SPUMS website lists contact details for appropriately qualified medical practitioners across Australia and New Zealand.

Paediatric Dive Medical Examinations - for children aged 10–15 years are considered on an individual basis. Please contact the Department of Hyperbaric & Diving Medicine directly on 6166 8193 to discuss with a Diving Physician

Occupational / Scientific Fitness to Dive Medicals - regulations determine the requirements for certifying occupational divers. Occupational diving is defined as diving that is carried out at work for gain or reward. The AS/NZS 2299.1 states an occupational diver medical is required to be undertaken every 12 months with a doctor who is suitably qualified in hyperbaric medicine and is authorised to conduct occupational diving medicals.

Recreational Fitness to Dive Medical is an assessment of a diver's health, covering areas such as the heart, lungs, ear, nose and throat, neurological functioning and general health, in accordance with the SPUMS Guidelines 2020.
