Join us in Launceston to celebrate World Ranger Day with a screening of Guardians of Hope, a documentary filmed by NSW ranger Amanda Dudgeon during her Walking the Thin Green Line expedition around Oceania.
Guardians of Hope is an inspiring documentary that follows ranger Amanda Dudgeon on a year-long journey across Oceania, travelling over 94,000 km and hiking 1,610 km - one kilometre for every ranger who has died in the line of duty. Through sweeping landscapes, intimate interviews, and raw reflections, the film celebrates the rangers who dedicate their lives to protecting nature, culture, and community across eight nations. More than just guardians of wildlife and wilderness, these rangers are firefighters, educators, cultural custodians, and frontline responders. They face challenges from natural disasters, trauma, and underfunding - but they persevere with determination, passion, and above all, hope. With powerful stories from Indigenous custodians, junior ranger mentors, and conservation leaders, Guardians of Hope highlights the deep connection between rangers and the land they protect. It explores the emotional and cultural weight of the profession, and the unbreakable bonds forged through shared purpose. At its heart, Guardians of Hope is a tribute to the quiet heroes walking the thin green line - those who keep showing up, not just to protect what’s left, but to inspire others to care and to act. Because hope, as this film shows, isn’t just something we hold onto - it’s something we do.
