AI for Non Profit Organisations
About this workshop
Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the way we work, but knowing where to start — and how to use it safely and effectively — can be challenging.
This practical workshop introduces participants to the everyday use of generative AI in not-for-profit and community organisations. It explores how AI can help save time, generate ideas, improve communications, create visual content and support common organisational tasks, while keeping human judgement, organisational values and responsible use at the centre.
Participants will explore a range of AI tools and learn how to communicate effectively with AI to get more useful results. Through practical examples and hands-on activities, the workshop demonstrates how AI can support tasks such as emails, meeting administration, marketing, brainstorming, document development, visual design and grant writing.
The session also examines the limitations and risks of AI, including accuracy, privacy, confidentiality, copyright and the importance of reviewing AI-generated content before it is used or published.

What’s involved
This is a practical, facilitator-led workshop designed to build confidence through demonstration, discussion and hands-on activities.
Participants will have opportunities to experiment with AI tools, develop and refine prompts, compare AI-generated responses and apply AI to realistic tasks commonly undertaken by not-for-profit and community organisations. Activities include creating and improving content, exploring visual design, adapting communications for different audiences and considering where AI can save time in participants' own work.
The emphasis is not on becoming an AI expert, but on developing the skills and judgement to use AI confidently, effectively and responsibly.
Participants will leave with practical prompting techniques, examples and resources they can continue to use in their everyday work.
Who should attend?
Staff, volunteers, Board and Committee members and leaders of not-for-profit and community organisations who want to understand how AI can be used practically in their work.
No previous AI experience is required.
