ITI Seminar Hobart - An Evidence Based Approach to Treatment Planning

This lecture will explore the key considerations that inform Prof. Roy Judge’s approach to treatment planning, the evidence base that underpins clinical decision-making, and how his management philosophy has evolved through three decades of practice.

Drawing on clinical experience, contemporary evidence, and the lessons learned from treating patients over many years, he will discuss the principles I used to develop treatment plans that are both clinically sound and aligned with individual patient needs, expectations, and circumstances. Particular emphasis will be placed on shared decision-making, communication throughout treatment, and the integration of evidence with clinical judgement.

The lecture will provide an insight into an evolving approach to treatment planning, shaped by evidence, experience, and the privilege of caring for patients over the long term.

Meet Your Speaker:

Roy is a Professor of Prosthodontics at the University of Melbourne, currently he is Senior Director, Clinical Education and Partnerships and Deputy Head of School.

He maintains a specialist referral practice in Moonee Ponds. As a clinician/ researcher Roy has integrated his research interests of implant dentistry and bone mechanics with teaching across all levels and an evidence-based approach to clinical practice.

Currently he leads a team of researchers that have developed a novel dental implant that has undergone lab and in vivo testing and now has started in human clinical trials.

Over his career Roy has served as the Head of implant Unit at the Royal Dental Hospital, Head of Prosthodontics and Director of Continuing Professional Development at Melbourne Dental School and Academic Clinical Director of the Melbourne Dental Clinic. Roy was joint chief investigator of the implant complications study carried out in Victorian Private Practices.

Roy is Fellow of ITI, College of General Dentistry (UK), Academy of Dentistry International and Academy of Australian and New Zealand Prosthodontists. He holds Honorary Professorial positions at Jordanian University of Science of Technology and Manipal College of Dental Sciences.
